mumix vs nedhall puzzle (with pente_gon's solution)

Find the best next move in this position:

ETA: white may have more than one way to win on move 14, depending on black's choices for moves, but the first move appears to be the key to winning by move 14. If you can find a quicker win against best black play, be sure to post!

J9 or J10 is my initial guess. No didn't study it yet.

Ok at second glance L11

Yes, L11 was pente_gon's choice of move. I wasn't able to find another move which won as quickly, though I didn't do an exhaustive search by any means.

i don't understand the strategy behind move 4b

is it defensive, or offensive, or both? Is it short term, or long term beneficial?

4...K9 was meant to set up the following:

...M7 (forcing L7 as a response), followed by ...L8 (creating an open 3, with, hopefully, juicy possibilities for a sustained attack using e.g. J8)

p1 naturally has the lead from the start, so p2 wants to build in a way that interferes with p1 while also giving p2 expansion possibilities. His fourth move both gets in p1s way and allows p2 expansion possibilities. So it is both offensive and defensive. Always have to ask yourself if you think the opponent can maintain initiative all the way to victory from the given position and if so you might want to try and disrupt that! With the L shape from p1, p2 needed to get in the way.
