By the definition "square means all sides are equal in length", I need to add 4 to green.

there are 5 green squares that all have 4 equal sides, keep looking.

Sorry classy...the squares are brown. The first time I opened the puzzle I actually only viewed it for a moment or 2. I was working from memory when I wrote my first guess. Didn't mean to add confusion to the mix...

they are black, not brown. i have now used two computers to verify this.

yes, they are black...trying to multi task...not doing it very well...in my previous post I meant to say "Sorry classy, they are black"...

i counted 49, but 51 rich? now hes making feel like i need to recount lol. i am pretty sure rich counted two squares twice. ill have another look.

1 (outer sq)
4 (9 box sq)
9 (4 box sq)
21 (small sq)
16 (tiny sq)

I am certain of it.

hehe, ok very good.

now i bring you an even harder one, this should slow you guys down,.. I'll be amazed to see someone answer this. After this one i might post a puzzle with triangles, not sure yet.

how many squares are there?

* a tip: if using a PC with firefox, hold the ctrl button and tap the + button to enlarge the image. the more times you tap the + button the more it expands. to return to normal view hold ctrl and tap the 0 button (zero).
