Did everyone go to sleep? Where is everyone? Let me get another discussion kicked off. Sean McCoy (club id: home_biskit) and I want to have a pente tournament in OKC. How many here would be interested in that, and how far in advance should we schedule it?

I wouldn't mind playing in a tournament, but in the Seattle area. It might be interesting to find out exactly where all the members are from and maybe arrange their names on a 'map graphic' so everyone could see where everyone else was at with the feasability of other groups of players, outside the Oaklahoma/Texas core of pente players, getting together to play. . . that is, if people are interested in meeting up for tournaments.

That's a good idea, gaylen. I can help you out a little bit personally; there's a Yahoo club called Pente Seattle! However, it's pretty dead. I joined right before I created this one, and then I realized it was very inactive and that I would be better off starting a new one. Still, maybe you could join that and get it going again!
I agree that a map graphic would be very helpful. Do we have a volunteer to get that together? We could probably load it into the Photos section of our club, right? I'm guessing here. Someone who knows more about this stuff than I do, please weigh in on this subject.
Aaron
P.S. Sorry about my over-abbreviation. OKC is Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Thanks for the tip Aaron. One way of doing the map graphic that I can think of would be to use Word and browse through the clip art on subject of maps. Then load one in and enlarge it and use the text box feature??, I think, to put names in about the right locations. I was going to say that I don't have access to Word but just realized that I could access this at the library. It might only be a bit inconvenient though as I would have to sign up for hour appointments to do this. If for nothing else maybe it might be fun to just see where everyone else was at a glance, but maybe it just might get something going for people getting together for tournaments in other areas. Think I'll try and find Pente Seattle...

Oh yeah--Joe brings up a good point. Not only is Oklahoma City the Pente capital of the world, but Hideaway Pizza is God's gift to pizza. These are both good reasons to have a tourney here. But let me be clear about what I'm proposing--this is hardly a world championship I'm talking about. If you live too far from Oklahoma City to make it, by all means, start a tourney where you are! I'm just trying to have some fun and get some live tournaments going again.

Hello,
I am interested in an OKC tournament -- I'll have to see what the airfare is like. If it is a bit too much for those of us on the East coast, I might want to organize a similar tournament near Washington DC. So if you are interested in a tournament in DC, email me (msmammel@s...).
I haven't got much accomplished in getting a Pente tournament at the Mind Sports Olympiad -- it is best if each sport has a governing organization and Pente has none. I haven't had much response in getting the RIF to include Pente for that tournament. So these local tournaments are a good idea for now -- then maybe we can build a national or international Pente organization somehow.
Scott (and Dweebo): nice game, I didn't really think of your move at 7, I was trying to defend P1's threats in the west. I can see that your move is effective though. The move at 10 was much easier and I definitely agree with yours. Thanks for the analysis! It looks like the second round of Oct Main will start soon and will be very exciting!
PS. We now have 50 members here in our club and are tied for 6th in the board games category.
