Tournament format proposal

I was thinking that sometimes one comes up with a line or idea for a game and wants to use it in a tournament. Sometimes, ideas are only good for one use, because once used others are able to study them. So, how to get the most bang for the buck for an idea? Maybe a tournament in which all players play each other simultaneously and games are hidden from view by other participants until the games have diverged from each other?
