Site problems report - and good news!

Amidst all the other server problems the site has been having lately, the game database stopped recording games about 2 days ago! I didn't notice until just now, I have since fixed the problem. In addition to logging games to the database, I also store them to flat files just in case the database update doesn't work. In this case, the flat files weren't saving because the directory had the max. number of files in it, over 65,000 (actually 2^16)! So my "backup" plan was actually causing the problem, sigh...

But now the good news, I think I may have determined (and fixed) the problem that was causing the server to go down frequently over the past month. Basically the game server was using too many database connections, over 60 per login when it only needs 1! By implementing a cache of player data, I can now avoid hitting the database that much. Hopefully this will keep the server running for much longer periods of time!

I'm sorry, I always forget to update your special version since you play on an old mac or something. It should be working now.

However, you need to figure out how to play with the real version, I am not going to support the other one for much longer. Many people have been able to play fine with Macs. Try following the advice of other users in this thread: http://www.pente.org/gameServer/jive/thread.jsp?forum=3&thread=461.
