Ratings now at www.itsyourturn
Posted: Aug 23, 2000, 3:20 AM

I am now rating all tourney Pente games (called
Pro Pente there with the usual tourney rule) at
www.itsyourturn.com (IYT).

This is a great site in that it so
easy to use. Also, there is a tourney starting every
week and they are very easy to enter and play in.
Right now, there is an average of about 40 players
entering the 'Pro Pente' tourneys. I'd like to get that up
to 60-70 on average.

The downside right now
is that a majority of the players on that site are
very recreational (although many are improving
quickly) and there are a lot of time forfeits by players
who enter tourneys and don't make moves. For rating
purposes, I don't rate forfeits where both sides haven't at
least made 5 moves. Also, the tourneys are completely
random pairings so you could play anyone in the 1st
round.

But these are just minor irritants on an otherwise
great site.

The ratings there are posted once
per week on Sunday by me on the 'GoMoku/Pente/Stack4
analysis' message board.

I am bringing this to
everyone's attention to try to encourage more good players
to play there. Also, beginning late this year, I
will be running seeded tourneys on the side at that
site using the ratings list. You will need to have an
established rating (at least 20 rated games from tourney play
there) in order to play in these seeded
tourneys.

Currently Mark Mammel, Aaron Fortune, Joeking, Andre
Velloso, and myself from here play in at least some of the
tourneys there. I hope to see more of you
there!

Ok ignore my previous post, I see all the questions were answered in message
#158. That should teach me to read all the old message before I jump into a
discussion.
