In a recent email I got from Aaron (pentejr) one point that interested me was said that Decipher has discontinued the making of Pente sets. I thought this might be a good forum to tell what I found out and ask anyone else if they have any information. This idea probally come from the listings on some online vendors that the red tube version of the game is out of print. The investigating that I have done shows that the pente portions of the Decipher web pages are still up in their Party Zone section. I also called the Customer Support number and the woman who ansered there said they were still making the game, that they still had the rights to the game, and that she doesn't see any change in Pente's status in the forseeable future. Right, well I was wondering if anyone else has any news on this front or some better questions that we might be able to ask the Decipher folks to find out what really is going on. Thanks, Brien

Brien's source is better than mine. I heard what I did from a Hideaway Pizza employee. Hideaway is owned by Gary Gabrel, inventor of Pente, and Hideaway locations had been selling the tubes until recently. I friend of mine tried to buy one and was told that Decipher had discontinued. I went to Decipher's site soon afterward and could find no trace of the game on the site. However, when I went today using the links on Brien's page, I found pente information. Thus, I don't know where Decipher stands. If they are still producing the game, it makes me wonder why Gabrel is no longer selling them in his restaurants.
Does anyone else know anything about this?
Aaron

I found at amazon.com a Pente set from Decipher. But it was not the tube. It is the 20th anniversary edition.
Probably the information is that they've discontinued the Tube.
I'm from Brazil and Pente is not widely spread here. I've learned to play it at ItsYourTurn and I've never seen an actual board of Pente. I was researching this because some people have told me about the tube and also about this boxed edition. But I'm thinking of making a board here. Here in Brazil we have diferent kinds of natural stones. I would buy some polished stones and build a board using wood. I just have some doubts about the size of the board and also about the shape and size of the Pente stones. So I'd ask you what are the usual measures of a Pente board and also the size and shpe of the stones.
Thanks,
André

That edition is ridiculous, what is it, $35 for a slightly smaller board than before? I got one for free when Decipher had some to give away if you answered a GAMES question. A cheaper version (in price) would be more widely marketable...

Yes, that 20th Anniversary Edition was a joke, as has been Decipher's promotion of the game since that one little spurt back in 1998. I got one of those 20 Anniv. boards for free by playing in the '98 tourney. I never play on the board, but the stones they put in it are cooler than the ones in the tube, so I switched those out. The tube that I play on all the time has red and clear stones now, and it is autographed by Gary Gabrel! Can't beat that! The 20th anniversary boards are a joke, though. I don't recommend them to anyone, unless your choices are that or nothing.
