oldest recorded internet pente games on this site. a glance at the beggining for fun.
first game recorded into the database; ben ~vs~ leonid [PBeM Non-Tournament Game] 07/03/1996
first game ever played at this site live; wesley ~vs~ smitty [Pente.org Live Game] 08/19/1999
wesley's K10 stone was like the first foot stepping on the moon lol. ;P
ancient times,...the game has come a ways in the last decade, as far as fine tuning the openings and stuff. 3 generations of pente have rolled by,.. and yet the game is still a ocean of adventures, even for the old timers.
i started this thread just for fun,.. and was wondering if any old timers have some forgotten or unknown pente stories to share.
thanks, ~z

Rrated but so much fun
This little story starts back in 1979 * I know I'am as old as dirt* I had just transferred jobs from Joplin, MO to Lawrence, KS. Just love the college atmosphere and thought this would be the city to have fun in. Was putting a lot of hours in but some of the girls that worked for me told me about this great club that I just had to visit. Wow!! still remember the name (Gammons) So its Friday night and I let my Asst. Mgr. close the place, and then home to change(Its the Disco days, ya know) Yes and I did wear the duded up leather coats and chains and things, but dam I looked good back then "Travolta" had nothing on me! hehehehe. So I arrive and this place is huge, 2 dance floors, disco balls everywhere, black lights, 3 bars, the waitresses were in gowns, the 2 door men had like suits on and had to be linemen on the KU football team and of course I had stood in line for awhile just to get in. So on with the story. I look around the room OMG they weren't kidding, I've never seen so many great looking Girls in all of my life being a small town boy and coming from a small town college in Kirksville MO this was like heaven. Searching the room for the closest bar, I found one that was very unique, It was Ushaped about 30 to 40 yards curved but it had backgammon and this other strange game board I hadn't seen before imbedded right into the top of the bar, individually lit up and at least 20 or so. I'm telling you every single game board had this killer looking girl playing the game with someone and they were betting on who would win especially the new game called Pente. Everyone seemed to be infatuated on who was going to take on the girls next and I'm telling you the guys never won that much. I guess since I had no idea about the rules and how you won maybe it was harder than it seemed. The rules seemed simple enough but the guys kept losing. I had my chance later on in the evening after dancing some and going back to that bar a few times for beers, I decided to take my chances with Pente and the really cute blond playing at one of the tables. Found out her name was Michele (Wo always liked that name) Shes was a Soph.. at Ku and her home town was in Oklahoma somewhere. Blond, green eyes, killer body, and she had learned the game from friends of hers at home. Of course I lost my first 2 games but beat her the 3rd, that seemed to impress her and then I couldn't lose. We talked and even danced some that night while we told our life stories. (Close your eyes Kiddies) Found out she was a virgin (Have know idea how we got this far in one night, but dam I must have been good or something or just plain the luckiest man on the planet. Now heres where it just gets Great. ***Its a guy thing**** She says that her boyfriend doesn't want to break the cherrie (her words) and she wants to get experienced WoW!!!! Its got to be the Beer talking!!! Here she is, I think asking me home to do the nasty so she can get good with a boyfriend sometime Wowowowowow and then she says, Are you ready to get out of here? " Oh Yea " I've been lucky afew times in my life but now you no why I just love the game of Pente and will always love the game of Pente. From the annals of Jayhawklover lore.

I'm going to pretend I didn't read the above post. Things are getting a little too crazy for me.
I'll just put it on record that I was merely trying to make a witty observation that a misspelling of the word "annals" in the manner that jay did is slightly problematic, for reasons I don't think I need to get into here. I meant no offense.

Jayhawk, are you bugging out or what??? I am going to assume that your original spelling of "annals" was misspelled "anals." If that is the case, you should be happy that karlW pointed it out to you.
You also should consider using paragraph breaks. I found your story interesting but difficult to read. One long paragraph is tough on the eyes.
If I do not accept a game invite right away, it means I will once I have fewer games in progress.

zoey, this is a very interesting and fun topic for discussion. I too, was amused and entertained by jayhawk's first thread. Perhaps this excerpt from Edwin Friedman's writings could help to sooth some hurt feelings:
EDWIN H. FRIEDMAN:
Communication does not depend on syntax, or eloquence, or rhetoric, or articulation but on the emotional context in which the message is being heard. People can only hear you when they are moving toward you, and they are not likely to when your words are pursuing them. Even the choices words lose their power when they are used to overpower. Attitudes are the real figures of speech.

While Edwin's statement is very true, and it is important not to hem and haw over punctuation, syntax and spelling, you cannot ignore the plain and simple fact that the way information is presented is as important, and sometimes more important, than the information itself. If the information is misinterpreted, then in many cases the fault rests as much with the speaker as with the listener. And I agree with dmitri that it is much more pleasant to read organized paragraphs than a huge block of text.
