Del, I'm a Ron Paul supporter, but on Pente.org? Is this really the best forum for that?

Hey, A Ron Paul thread on DSG!

Here is the problem:

People don't really care about ideas and solutions. Ron Paul is about ideas and solutions, but the average voter probably doesn't care or isnt smart enough to see the value of his ideas.

Libertarians face an uphill battle when running for office. For some reason, libertarianism has a negative connotation with many of the people who know hat Libertarianism is (And of course, the other problem is that so many people do not know what Libertarianism is).

Even though Ron Paul is running as a Republican, he will likely experience a good amount of anti-Libertarian sentiment.

As a registered libertarian, I dispairedly concur. ......I hate to say it, but this will be the hardest election I've ever had to deal with internally and it'll be a battle to even muster the gumption to cast a vote. Man I'm pissed about the shape our political climate is in.

heh, i suppose they're open boards... im not saying those are any better for showing up on here, im just not a huge fan of proselytizing politics on spaces dedicated for a completely different purpose.

as far as if the voters care about ideas and issues... i think what happens in terms of a candidate like ron paul is a combination of two things: voter apathy and biased media coverage. voters don't care enough to research the viable candidates because they think either that just by voting they are doing enough, or that they're educated enough by mainstream media, or a slew of other reasons. also news about ron paul is so heavily mediated that it's nearly impossible to find an honest representation of him in any major news outlet, especially given cases such as when abcnews.com removed a poll about who voters thought won a debate when voters picked... ron paul. just like kerry was painted a certain way last election, and gore was painted one in the one before that, and ross perot even before that, so is ron paul painted as an radical outsider with no legitimate chance by the media. and since we have this notion in this country that no one other than frontrunners should ever be considered, and especially no one outside of the two major parties, voters feel like if they throw their support behind someone not likely to win, then they are wasting their votes and someone that would like even less to win the election would become in power. yes, it sucks that ron paul will never win the presidential election. our american system of voting blows if you're not a frontrunner from a major party, or even if you're just someone who gives a damn about what's going on. but until this cultural value of not taking intellectual risks by supporting non-mainstream ideas changes, our political climate is not going to change, either.

i apologize for how disorganized that was, i just got done with a paper and a problem set and my brain is not working very well right now...

As registered Libertarians we cannot even vote in the promary elections to support Ron Paul.

The media has too much control in this country.

Well I am registered republican.. so is doctor Paul. Ron Paul only changed his party candidacy for 1 year in 1988 to libertarian. He has been elected to 10 terms of congress as a republican. Personally I always felt I was a Jeffersonian populist..lately called a constitutionalist.
