Should Pente Join BOINC, Maybe Rosetta
Posted: Mar 10, 2007, 10:22 AM

There is software out there that is called BOINC, it is designed for people to run distributed projects. The project that is new and popular is called Rosetta. They keep track of what users are apart and give them daily rankings. These people can join teams. If there was a PENTE.ORG team this site would suddenly have thousands of people a day looking at the URL and probably many of them would click it, resulting in new users. What is cool about rosetta is that with as few at 10-20 users our team could be in the top 20-30 teams VERY fast. So with a little work we could get many many smart people looking at this site, and get users. If you like this I can set it up for you.

Goto http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ for info.

BTW rosetta is mapping the human genome and your help could cure some things in the future.....

Ok lemme clarify that I'm an idiot before I say anything else. That being established, is there any downfall such as spyware, malicious programs, etc. that anyone should be aware of?

There is no spyware or anything malicious in this at all. It is done for scientific research. There are two minor downfalls for a user. One is the fact that it uses your idle CPU power, which you will no way see or feel in your computer usage because it is lowest priority, but your CPU will use more power and make more heat. The second minor downfall is that on computers with less than 512 MB of ram it may take a few seconds to swap out the ram it was using. I only see this on my oldest computer, I never notice this on all my new ones.

The stats pages are awesome and there are currently over 40,000 geeks running this software, I am sure a few of them will know what pente is and re-discover it.
