can anybody reccomend any Pente-related books or sites that would help me build my skill? I've seen a few, but most of them just list games... They don't seem to help me too much... anyway it seems the best way is practice

Hi,
its good to start at my site where there is a chapter on Pente Strategy for beginners by Alexander Nosovsky and a link to old US Pente Assoc newsletters posted at the RIF website. Go to http://users.erols.com/msmammel/marksfiv.html
There is one Pente book available: Pente Strategy by Tom Braunlich. It is out of print but its worthwhile if you can find a copy for sale on the 'net somewhere...

Actually, Braunlich wrote at least two and maybe three Pente strategy books. The first one is completely outdated. Book Two has some good stuff, including, if memory serves an introduction to the Hammer. I'm not sure if there's a book three...penteman should know...paging penteman!!!

Oh, and as far as looking at different games (as opposed to general strategy) goes, there's the complete notation from the '83 World Championship that's still circulating (I believe) out there on the 'Net. Of course, there's probably like huge databases you can download now from more current games. Anyway, that's it, that's all I know.
