On-line and e-mail server

Dear All I know there are many programmers among members of Pente Club, and I hope we can together try to solve the problem. As we know IYT you can play on-line only, but at PBeM you can play only by e-mail. It 'll be great if we can have server with possibility to play on-line or by just sending e-mail like we do it at PBeM-server. Can anyone write what is the difficulties of this server for both E-mail and On-line options Regards Alexander Nosovsky

There are none problems. But goals are different. When you made an on-line server, play by e-mail seems not interesting. When you made a e-mail server, on-line server represent a lot of fastidious graphical works. IYT is not completely on-line.

I think that some players not from US, can not use On-line servers because it is nessasery to wait a lot then you know next move. If you have servis like PBem you can receive e-mails with moves and you also able to answer very fast (not making moves at on-line server paying a lot for time which you are in Internet. Such problem is rather important for such coumtries as Russia, Ukraine, China... We probably need on-line and e-mail software to make competitions better and fair. For instanse, it was surprise that at IYT server it is added some time when holidays are at USA, but never add when holidays are in another countries... You can not stay at vacation at IYT if you need to go another place or country... Those problems are absent at PBem server, so this tournaments are fair for all players. But of course some players don't like it graphick, it is true not really good. If it is possible to have both kinds of software it will be better to have it and ask owners of servers - Do you want to have Pente Championship with this kind of software ? then ask them and agree with not good condition of playing for all players because they just have some kind of software. May be we can put it in Internet and all owners of servers who wanted to have a place for Pente can use it, but this case we can ask them to have possibilities for vacation and total time control, possibility to send moves by just sending e-mails.

Would a graphical client for Richard's PBeM take care of the situation?
As far as I can see, the only real differences between IYT or Pente Net and Richard's PBeM are:
o IYT and Pente Net display the board with images, while Richard's displays ASCII art.
o Richard's sends you your move while IYT and Pente Net only send a message telling you your opponent has moved.
o IYT and Pente Net allow for, sluggish, real-time action if both players are online simultaneously. I don't know what the turnaround time on moves is at Richard's. Does that server process moves as soon as it gets the e-mail message?
If the turnaround time at Richard's is, usually, only a minute or so, then a specilized e-mail client would be, essentially, the same as IYT or Pente Net, except you wouldn't have to go to a Web site to see your moves, so you wouldn't have to stay online as long if you only wanted to make one move per game. (It might also help out people, like me, who get easily confused by the notation used at Richard's.)

Unlimited, inexpensive internet service like we have in the US will someday solve this problem. I can play all day at IYT and it's just the same monthly fee. I know in other parts of the world internet time is expensive for now. At Richards you can think about and make your moves off line. Not so at IYT. Joe
