New Tutorial Based on World Champion's Strategy Guide
Posted: May 17, 2026, 11:32 PM

Hey all, longtime fan of this game, 10 years since first round on this site!

Just wanted to share a tutorial I made based on Tom Braunlich's two excellent strategy guides from the 80's. Covers simple things like trias/tesseras and more advanced concepts like H / X etc.

https://www.pureabstracts.com/game/pairs/learn

Hope you enjoy! Feel free to message me with any feedback or if you want to play.

I like the concept of the puzzles! Very fun, thanks for sharing. A daily puzzle thing would be a fun addition to pente org.

One-move-problems aren't challenging at all =(
Also, some of them are questionable. For example, 3.4, Double Threats, step 2: after a 3-3 is created, there is a capture which destroys both, so the win actually is more complicated.

I have a site ( https://renju.app/ ) with a metric ton of Renju problems of any difficulty from novice to grandmaster and beyond, and I really lack such problems in Pente.
