Brainking ratings list

Brainking ratings for Keryo Pente players (including provisional and inactive players). Note that BK's rating system awards points to the lower rated player and subtracts them from the higher rated player in the event of a drawn set, so the ratings on this list would be higher here where that isn't the case. Some players use different handles here and there. For instance, I'm waterdancer at Brainking. This list may be helpful in database searches.

thanks Watsu, I was also thinking of doing this very thing before we rounded the corner to 2018. I appreciate you saving me the effort of posting all those ratings!

I can insert these ratings in the database, but note that

a) pente.org and BK usernames are not mixed
b) database ratings for pente.org are tracked on a per-game basis, meaning that if I insert these ratings they will be reflected on all BK games for that user, and you'll see a game marked with a high rating even when the player was still a beginner when that game was played. Is that desirable?

I think having them inserted might be preferable even for the players while playing as beginners; searchers would know as they currently searched those players by these ratings that their earliest games often wouldn't reflect their final rating. In some cases experienced players migrated from IYT or elsewhere to BK, so their end rating would likely be similar to their beginning rating. So, having them inserted would allow a blanket search of BK players with ratings over a certain final rating threshold (with their earliest games sometimes being not reflective of that rating level) versus typing in a long list of names to achieve that same search.

Well continuing on with watsu's effort here are all the PBEM ratings. These ratings are much lower comparatively than Brainking or Pente.org's systems. Which is something that Dmitriking eluded to already, since this was just how it was done back in the day.

I figured it would be a good thing to have this all data in the same thread. Hopefully this format works.

working on that with mark right now. looks like only ~1800 games in the Dbase right now. Also some of the folks listed such as the player "god" for instance no longer have a rating at PBEM, either due to acct deletion or some other issue.

trying to see if we can pull everything out from 3-25-2005 up to now. I don't expect to see a whole lot added here with that though. Mainly PBeM saw heavy usage due to no websites really being on the scene yet for pente from 1998-2005. After that other sites (Pente.net, IYT, Pente.org, Brainking) all started coming online.

I suspect we might be able to pull in another 500-1000 or so good games from then to now though. Will keep you posted once Mark gets back to me and we can see what's feasible (hard guy to get ahold of though).

Are you waterdancer there? I challenged waterdancer there yesterday i think. Is there a challenge delete there if this is you and you don't want to take the challenge?
