Pente Night

I've been thinking about this for a while and just need some input. The Hideaway in Stillwater, Oklahoma has a large banquet room with a big screen tv that you can hook up to a laptop. We also have wi-fi so we could connect to here. There are also several regular boards to play on. I'm thinking about getting a pente night going or something . Maybe monday nights since that's my one night off. Okay , well there you have it. It just seems like a great resource for the game and I would like to make use of it.
Any helpful suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks, Todd

The first thing that came to mind was how interesting it would be to see the DSG Pente board on a big screen tv The stones would be as big as your head!

Sounds like a great idea to me. Basically it would be a local gathering of Pente players (plenty of them in OK) and also would connect to DSG? Not sure how that part of it works, but I guess you could have players playing locally and on this site. You could start a club at the WPPF to help organize it, and to promote it.

Having a regular night when players can come is a good idea, and something that I never really promoted here, though I should definitely do it. At least until the day when EVERY night is Pente night and DSG is always full.

Sounds like an awesome idea! Would love to see it come to be! Maybe you could switch your day off to Sunday or something so as to attract more people that don't live in Stillwater! LOL j/k Anyway, would love to try and attend some night, please let me know if it ever gets past the idea stage!

I branched this topic about a Pente Night off into a new thread.

The Pente night at DSG would probably be the best time to host a weekly Speed-Pente tournament, don't you think.

Partica, what was the tourney format you used in prior speed tournies, just single-elimination right? Do you think speed-tournies would work with the Round-Robin format, I think that is what kurnik uses, though I've never played in one there.

I know they play official league games at kurnik (I found this out when dweebo's was down for a few days), but getting regular tourneys running is probably going to generate more interest for now. Having a league might be too much commitment for those busy bees that still want to participate when they do have the time.

I wasn't really thinking of having a league. It would be nice though if there was one time when everyone knew they could come to the site and find a bunch of players to play against, instead of the 5-10 normally on at night. You certainly wouldn't have to come every week. And we could have a new speed tournament on that same night, sort of the main event.

kurnik's official tournaments are played in swiss format (maybe with some modification, but basis is the same), you can see how that works every tuesday and saturday.. but we have also Pente League on Kurnik and it is sth like round robin, but more complicated
