Cave dwellers, art, and Pente!

I was the one who speculated that some type of stone games may have been played on the floors of the caves of those folks who did that great art on the cave walls. I agree with pentejr that they had far less time for leishure activities than we do, but by the light of the fire, after dinner, who knows?? I disagree with wmkingbek. No need to do such great work if it was just for hunting stratagy. Most art historians think it had some sort of religious significance. They were Homo Sapiens, not Neanderthals. Neanderthals didn't do art, and I doubt played stone games. We have art, Homo Sapiens had art back then. Don't forget, they were our great great xxxxxx grandparents. You are an artist Risingsun. Tell us what you think?? Joe

well, let's see joe..........why do kids make crayon drawings on the walls? or chalk pictures on the sidewalks? part of it is they like to draw, part of it is they want to make it pretty. if you had to look at the same old nasty, dank cave walls everyday, wouldn't you get tired? why do you hang pictures on your walls? to create something enjoyable, much like the way we take pictures of things that please us. now, i'm sure it probably had something to do with religion or luck-in-hunting rituals or something like that but couldn't it also be just the simple fact that they wanted decoration? art is an amazing way to trancend the limits of race and language and all other barriers save blindness. it has been around since the dawn of man, as we know from the cave paintings. i think our early ancestors were far more intelligent than we give them credit for. i have more to say on this subject but unfortunately, i have no more time so i must leave this here. i will comment later i'm sure though .
