Circular Pente

New member alert!

Hi. I'm Joe Sewell, a
Pente fan since roughly 1984. A good friend of mine and
I used to play Pente and another game rather
frequently.

My note this time involves that other game, a
circular Pente style game called Megiddo. Thankfully I
found a copy on eBay. It involves getting 6 in a row
(either in a line across the 6 rings, 6 along a ring, or
6 in a spiral where no 2 share the same ring or
line) or capturing 6 stones (i.e., 3 pairs). It's quite
fun, especially if you find Pente easy; those spirals
are killers.

I was just wondering if anyone
else had heard of it.

Welcome, Megiddo sounds interesting -- similar to
hexade where you can get six in a line, a hexagon, or a
triangle. Hexade is on a hexagonal board, I'm not sure what
the board is like that you are describing...what is
the size and shape? Is a ring a hexagon?

Has
anyone played Boku? (also hexagonal board, five in a
row, but remove only ONE of a captured pair)?

I've seen Hexade as an online game, but I *have*
been wondering if it was ever released as a physical
board game.

Megiddo's play area is circular, but
the board itself is usually square, with decorations
filling in the spaces around the play area.

A ring
is a ring, a circle. Actually, in this case, the
stones WOULD form a hexagon, now that you mention
it.

I've never heard of Boku before this.

megiddo is simply a '3d' version of pente and is actually quite fun and intensely strategic. spirals can be soo hard to foresee as well as circles. Radii are the simplest obviously. i own the tube version of the game from 1985, and love it. of course ive played pente much longer and am more developed in the game so it still retains its special place on the shelf, but megiddo is a wonderfully challenging variation of the game.

have you come to develop much strategy for the game yet?
