pente for points variant

The response to this one was not favorable at Brainking.com, so I'll state this up front: I'm not advocating that points be used to determine the winner of a pente game here; just speculating about whether a point analysis sytem could be developed to help rank and handicap players. Right now the player 1 advantage is too large (even with tournament rules) and so it seems to me that if rankings were able to take into account the relative closeness of games then they would be more accurate. Also tournaments would then have an option besides resorting to tie-breakers or further restrictions on the game to determine the stronger player in situations where wins are being traded based on who plays first.
