Pente No. 1???
Posted: Jan 25, 2001, 9:32 PM

Since this club started back in June 2000, it has
steadily risen up the charts as one of Yahoo's most active
and fastest growing board game clubs. Now, we are
also one of the largest. As of my writing this
message, we have 73 members, which makes us the 5th
largest Yahoo board games club. (The list I refer to is
the one that excludes huge board game subcategories
like Chess, Monopoly, etc. Yahoo has another list that
includes them.) Everyone here should be commended for
making this club what it is. By keeping Pente high up on
the list of most popular clubs in its category, you
give great recognition to a great game.

You
should also be commended for keeping this one of the
most active clubs around. I visit other larger clubs
regularly just to see why they're so large. Most of the
time, there is no reason. Members hardly ever log in,
much less post any discussion. However, every time I
think this club is dying down, we get a burst of new
members and fresh discussion.

Finally, I post a
question/challenge to this group: do you think we could ever become
the largest board game club on Yahoo? Right now, as I
said, we have 73. The Yahoo Dune club, currently the
largest in the category, stands at something like 142.
That means we would have to double our membership and
probably more, as the Dune membership keeps increasing too
(albeit slowly). I'm not really suggesting a membership
drive--I don't care about having people as members just to
have members if they are not interested in the game.
Rather, I am asking you all if you think we could get
that many genuinely interested new members. I think
that maybe we could. The Jan. Main #1 tourney at IYT
had almost 100 entries. This is really amazing,
considering that just two months ago we tried to use this
club to make a massive IYT tournament and could only
muster 74!

Anyway, I thought I would bring this
up as a possibility. Our club doesn't have to be the
largest club to be the best, but it would speak volumes
about the game if we could find that many interested
players.

Take care all,

Aaron
