Watsu-- I still do not understand what you are saying. The turn based games ARE separate from the real time games, and anyone searching games can search DSG only (which will give him the real time games) or search the turn based sites which will give him the tunr based games.
Regarding the captures-- I too recall seeing that if the captured stones are missed by BOT players that threy remain on theboard. However, the stones are SUPPOSED to be removed. SO, the computer's removing the stones automatically is just enforcing the correct rules.
TO deminstrate why I think your opint is weak, consider a game of chess. In internet play, the computer automatically ends theg ame whne one player has checkmate. BUt according to what you are saying, that is "cheating" because the player might not realize he has checkmated his opponent, and they might keep playing! then his opponent could move his king, after which time he would obviously still be in check) but if the other playerdoesn;t realize it, the game could ocntinue.
BUt just because both players MISSED the checkmate doesnl;t mean it should have ben allowed to happen-- the game was SUPPOSED to be over. A checkmate is a checkmate, whether they see it ir not. Similarlyly, in pente, a capture is a capture, whether the players see it or not. If they both miss it in an over the board game, there is nothing that can be done. But on the computer, something CAN bedone, becayusse the computer acts as an impartial third party tp ensure that the stones are removed when they are supposed to.
So I woudl argue that an over the board purist would Applaud the fact that the computer removes the apctures stones, not condemn it.
If I do not accept a game invite right away, it means I will once I have fewer games in progress.

Ok, further clarification, then. I would like to be able to play turn based games of pente at DSG. If those were to be available, I was thinking they should be in a different database than the ones which are currently played here. Your point makes sense to me also Dmitri about the computer removing stones, and I for one would certainly not like to see it go away. I have in the past played games against players who probably would not like the feature though. Like I said it was a stupid point. Tom
Retired from TB Pente, but still playing live games & exploring variants like D, poof and boat

OK, I now see what you were saying. I did not realize you were talking about turn based games at DSG. ALthough I am sure Dweebo could handle it, I am not sure he would want to, because other sites already have Turn based pente.

Just a further clarification, DM, technically, according to the 1987 proposal (the rules we played under at OKC), if a capture is missed by either player, then the stones are not removed if the capture is later noticed. With referees available, the referee should act as the computer ensuring that all captures are taken. However, absent any referees, the issue of what to do with captures is a big one. Ultimately, on this and many other points, 99% of people will act honestly and try to remove the capture especially since the advantage of leaving a capture on the board is an extreme minority of the game. And, let me add, this is just as much a test of a player's ability as what response he has to the Boston Defense might be. The best players keep track of the board and act accordingly.

This is what I was saying. Obviously if both players miss the capture, not much can be done about it. But that does not change the fact that the stones are SUPPOSED to be removed.
