What's happening in the world of pente? I see
from the comments under our members that mmammel is
working on pente for Windows and dweebo has resumed work
on his version 3 of his awesome real-time site.
This club is here to let people know about this kind
of stuff, but you need to POST it to the message
board rather than burying it in the comments section. I
see several people in our merry little band who are
on the cutting edge, so to speak, of many aspects of
this game, so we have a unique opportunity here to get
people fired up about the game again. To do this,
though, we have to keep the message board active because
that's where people go for information.

Now, back
to the picture thing--I know I can get ahold of a
glass board for a photo op, and I think that's a
pretty good idea. However, I want feedback from
everybody. What do you all think of joe's idea to have a
glass board game shot for our club's home page?

Yes, besides upgrading it to Windows, I am working on
using a Negamax search with a hash table -- in other
words it will search faster.

Very
cool! Does anyone actually have a glass board? I
remember a link from Brian Wagners Pente page to a site
that had a computer generated image of a glass pente
board. It doesn't seem to be there anymore, anyone
remember it?

Richard's PBEM Pente tournament will
start very soon! (July 25th) Let me know if you want to
join.

Later,
Mark

unusual stones

I bought 36 globs of polished obsidian at a rock shop in Colorado during my
honeymoon that I intend to use as pente stones. Does anyone have a more
unusual pente accessory than that?

Back to the glass board thing......

How about little plastic army men for game
pieces. That's the way Penteman plays, he likes to
capture (and torture, I suspect). Anyway, he should have
quite a stone collection, he keeps snatchng all of
mine!

Where could a person find the magnetic pente boards? I had one years ago and it got lost in the shuffle.

Your best bet would be to do a search on Magnetic Go Boards. They have the same setup as pente boards. You could also try E-Bay. I haven't seen a magnetic pente board before, but I do use my magnetic go board quite a bit. The board is the same dimension (19 x 19) and there are two colors of magnetic stones (white and black). Good Luck on your hunt!
