I have dreams of a big vegetable garden someday. We have plenty of space.

But too many other projects this year to spend much time gardening, so I've only so far planted some strawberries and sunflowers.

We did however join a CSA (community sponsored agriculture) and are just now starting to receive a box of veggies weekly from a local farm!

Good to hear you are making a effort. It is easy to make a raised bed out of pressure treated 4x4's. It doesn't require much time. Maybe build it 3 layers high and add my usual ingredients. 1 bale of peat moss to about 6 or 7 bags of top soil. Mix well and insert plants. It may be too late but I imagine you may get some results with much watering..Oh well maybe next year..

Raised garden beds for veggies.
The old CCA lumber was banned a few years back due to the arsenic's, acetone was then left out and a more copper based treatment is now being used--which will still leech out dyes and chemicals.
The treated wood shows up browntone-----But where it sits in the lumber yards the surrounding gray asphalt is green(if rained on) from the copper leeching out.
I would suggest a natural wood with no treatment such as hemlock, doug fir,or cedar........The life span is not as long but is safer.

Just my 2 bits
Your local lumber guy...:oD

I have heard this argument before Mick. I am not sure how contaminated pressure treated lumber truly is? Millions of kids everywhere are playing on it. As a carpenter I know I have inhaled my share of PT dust. I do try to avoid this. On hot days it is difficult to breathe through a respirator. The new PT is supposed to be treated with copper I think. I know copper can be poisonous as well. Well everyone is getting a good dose of copper because most homes have it in the plumbing. On a another note I rather eat vegetables from my yard than some genetically altered crap from general mills. Don't even get me started on aspartame.."nutra sweet" or teflon pans. Guess I better pour them raised beds out of concrete or lay stone.. Good looking out though Mick.
