New feature: Picky open invitations
Posted: Oct 8, 2015, 7:12 PM

The open invitations now have an option of audience filtering.

You can make your open invitations available to players of
- any rating
- rating lower than yours
- rating higher than yours
- a rating that's less than 75 points away from yours
- the same rating color as yours. (This does not account for provisional ratings, all ratings are treated equal here.)

This is not yet available to iPhone players. Soooonnnnnn.

I adjusted the base rating for new players to 1200, this does not affect rating computations, there the base rating is still 1600, but this makes it more likely for newbies to play other newbies when they post invitations to similarly rated players.

The "similar rating" restriction is something I pulled out of thin air. If you think a wider or smaller margin is better, do speak up.

Sounds like someone has been on brainking. They have a similar feature. I suggest you check out their system for inspiration.

Nice to see you're not rushing to get all those done.

"xeno", that's Greek, right? Means "rude"...

Xeno means roughly Strange. I picked it more as an actual persons' name. I'm a bit of a classical history buff.

And also, it seems, a bit dense. My posts were to take you to task for your sarcasm toward rainwolf for the work he's getting done. The "kick your butt" part I meant. A game (pleasant meeting of friends over a board)...not so much.

Who says I was being sarcastic, perhaps I was appaulding his diligence in not rushing to do things just because one person says "I have this list of grievances longer than the Magna Carta I want implemented."

That would sure clear up things for me
I interpreted it as sarcasm too at first, but it makes sense now.

See, dweebo was the previous owner of this place and his list dates from 2005, which is when he created the turn-based part of pente.org. I occasionally dig up forum posts with ideas I can implement (easily) and that seem to be in demand.

If that's the case then I apologize most abjectly to xeno. I just don't think so. You may be more of a gentleman than me, rainwolf.

It is hard at times to convey tone in text for me without being long-winded at times. My most sincere apology for the lack of clarity. I tend to have three tones, literal bordering on autistic, reflective nearing utter self-awareness and a dark sarcastic tone, so I get this can happen easily on a forum. I find more intimate environs to work better for me. It's why I like voice over text for discourse.

I added a new option for the open invitations, you can now restrict your open invitations to players whom do not have ongoing games against you.

This is filtered per game type. If you have an ongoing game of Pente against X and no ongoing Connect6 game, then X can still accept a Connect6 open invitation from you.

This also means that as of now I remove the previous limit on open invitations.

How do I get to set up my own turn based game where I see others with their name and rating. How do do I list a game
with my name listed. All I get following instructions are open invitation listings.
